What to wear to a newborn session

This is such a common question that I get and the simple answer is.. what YOU feel comfortable in! Easy enough, right? Not always.

I remember when I was a new mom and my body had gone through so many changes. I was certainly not feeling myself at the time of our newborn session for either of my sons, so trust me, I get it! This is why I have compiled a list of what I think are great options for your family portion of your newborn session.

MOMS : Choose your outfit first and then coordinate the rest around what you feel your best in! I am a big fan of neutrals. I love creams, whites and blacks. Something a little loose fitting, that gives your new body some breathing room. I love pretty necklines, since the photos are done waist up! Black hides alot if you are worried about the belly area, and make sure bra straps are tucked away good! I typically photograph my family portion on dark gray background, so these colors really pop. Another great tip is to have clean manicured nails!

DADS : Similar color pallet here, blacks pastels, whites and creams. I love for dads to come in a nice button down, or nice fitting T shirt. Again, this is going to be waist up only! Avoid any clothing that has words on it and harsh patterns. Also, bring an extra pair of clothes just incase! Babies do tend to poop and pee at random!

SIBLINGS : Again, I am going neutral and comfortable here! It is going to be hot in the studio. Newborn studios are 75-80 degrees typically. So in an effort to keep the little ones happy - something light weight works best. Try to avoid clothes that you have to constantly adjust, and no need to worry about shoes for anyone in the family :) Whew!

BABY : I have a ton of colors of wraps for family photos that can coordinate with what you guys are wearing. So this one is easy! I've already got you covered!

Remember that these photos are mostly about the baby and the connection between you and your new family! Sometimes the most simple and classic pieces photograph best and the result is timeless newborn photos.
